Come one, cum all to the CORNHOLE CHAMPIONSHIPS in Pierre South Dakota on June 19th, 2010!
Yep! That's right! The leaders of the City of Pierre have found yet another great way to re-vitalize the city, bringing in the American Cornhole Association for a GAY-la event! This will surely bring added respect for our city. No longer will the midwest be laughed at. Steamboat Park is going to be full of cornholers! We need to all make sure we bend over backwards for the event! I'm thinking "K Y" could sponsor it for the city, but if anyone has a better idea, let the Chamber of Commerce know!
For more information, just go to www.pierre.org and click on "Pierre area Cornhole Tournament" to learn all about how to Cornhole! What is Cornholing? Well, you will find out all about it on the 19th of June in Steamboat Park folks~!
I'm not sure, but I think you need to wear a "Borat" thong to compete.
If you go to the website, www.pierre.org you will see at the bottom of the page, under "Featured Events" that the "Pierre Area Cornhole Tournament" is listed just to the left of "Capital City Queen". So, after a hard day of hot sweaty cornhole fun, you can get right on the Capital City Queen and cool down your throbbing muscles.
Then, theFUN BEGINS!!!!
You can read all about how to CORNHOLE!!!
From the American Cornhole Association's website....http://www.playcornhole.org/
"The American Cornhole Association was established by a small group
of dedicated Cornholers from the west side of Cincinnati, Ohio. It has
grown over the years and, to the best of our knowledge, now represents
the largest organized Cornhole / Corn Toss association in the United States."
Dedicated Cornholers???
Under "How to play" it reveals...
"Scoring can be swift and the lead may change hands several times in a match before the winner is decided."

Coming soon to Pierre...
ReplyDeleteThe Dirty Sanchez poker tournament
The Golden Showers swimming competition
The Reach Around bingo tournament.
I can't wait to see who wins "MISS CORNHOLE" this year.
You might laugh and think this is a joke, but seriously do some research before you crack jokes. Cornhole is a serious sport in the Ohio Valley States and Southeast. It's funny that this sport hasn't caught on in South Dakota, maybe it's because people around here think it's funny to poke fun at a name. What's wrong with the word corn and hole? What's wrong with putting the two together? You go to Indiana or Ohio and say cornhole, they get thier boards out and ask you to play. You say it up here and people laugh and crack a Bevis and Butthead joke. If you really think it's funny, come down and play, you won't think it's so much of a joke when you see how many people it will draw to the Pierre area. What I find funny is the people who make jokes, can't throw a one pound bag at a board 30 feet away. Come down and play, I'm sure we'd all get a good laugh at your weak toss!
ReplyDeleteThis has to be one of the most ignorant posts that I have ever read. Just because a name has multiple meanings you make fun of a serious sport. I agree that cornhole can have a different connatation to some folks, but so can the name Dick and many other words. I bet your a gay Dick that's likes to poke others in fun. There is nothing wrong with being a happy guy named Richard who likes to play with himself and others, but be careful because you are sure to have someone who is going to humiliate you get beat in your cornhole game. Life's a pitch. Who's in?
ReplyDeleteOhio is a long way away from Pierre, SD though and while we may not know the culture of a far away land, we still have mental images of Bevis and Butthead and the guy on Office Space using the word cornhole to describe someone's anus. With new terms and culture shock such as this, it is always good to do some "easing in" of the term first. Once people are educated then the term can be used more readily.
ReplyDeleteI was really hoping this was gonna be a "butt fucking" tournament. Case in point, do you see how I didn't "ease in" the term? It is a shocker. Obviously 10 times the shocker of the cornholing term but it made the point I think...
Additionally, I think it is amazing that most of our comments on this forum are on this post. Just goes to show that offending people usually gets more attention then providing them with good and useful information!
Lastly, I'd like to thank the anonymous posters for participating! I am being totally serious in saying that. Tell your friends about this blog and keep checking in even if it is to flame or disagree. We love that stuff!
I totally agree. Good to see people writing and believe me, I've actually made up games growing up that were far far more ridiculous than bean bag tossing. If you read my post, you will understand that I was totally making fun of the City, and not the game. Someone at the city wrote all that info on the Commerce site, and it was OBVIOUS that they didn't know the double meaning of the phrase. If anything, Pierre needs MORE crazy stuff like this with crazy names. I know that among my friends and associates, we all got a total kick out of the name, and we will DEFINITELY be there in the park throwing our bags. You can get tee shirts and mugs on the site along with other stuff, and who doesn't want a tee shirt that says, "I (heart)to Cornhole!"
ReplyDeleteI know I'm getting one!
The great thing would be that if someone in the City of Pierre would actually TRY to bring more humorous activities like this to the town, instead of what actually happened- that a chamber official didn't know what "cornhole" really meant, or was too afraid to call attention to it. The City of Pierre is filled with government workers and farmer decendants, both of whom are, lets say, a little lacking in the sense of humor dept and EASILY OFFENDED. They're kind of sticks in the mud sometimes, and what makes this event funny is that those same people are deathly afraid to be made fun of. They need to get over it. Stop turning your nose up and start having fun.
I love the fact that the anonymous posts are calling me out. I'm practicing my corn hole! I'm gonna whoop your ass! No really, I mean in cornhole. Not... Oh crap. I'm really gonna whoop your ass now!!! Ha!
Zoomzoom...I am glad to hear you are excited about Cornhole. I would like to clear a few things up for you and your readers. My name is Tony Jockheck and I am the Communications & Community Outreach Coordinator for the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce, and you may call me Mr. Cornhole. Back in September of 2009 my softball team had a party at the end of the season and someone brought these boards and bags and we played until late in the evening, everyone was having a blast! The next day we got to talking and thought how fun it would be to have a league in town (at the time we still called it bean bag toss). Well that Monday I went into work and tossed the idea out there, and really didn't get much back. Then I started to do a little research and found this game "cornhole" is HUGE in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, South & North Carolina and in the surrounding states.
ReplyDeleteSo a couple months later at our staff retreat we were trying to come up with a new event that was "outside the box" so i said "how about cornhole", now if you know any of the ladies i work with, you can only imagine the look on their face when i first said that. After some explanation of the game and of course the name, we decided to see what some people in the community thought about it. Before long we were approached by many people who wanted to play. So we thought, how cool would a Cornhole Tournament be during Oahe Days?
So yes, Cornhole is very real, and very competitive. To answer another one of your questions, I did have an idea that "cornhole" would be taken in a "negative" light, but would we be talking about it if we didn't? No we wouldn't be, and we probably wouldn't be having a tournament during Oahe Days.
I am glad people are having fun with the name, but i hope that also turns into people having fun playing the game.
I imagine a day when you ask any South Dakotan if they want to Cornhole, and they go get the boards and bags, not try to hit the person who asked them!
If you have ANY questions at all about Cornhole, please feel free to contact me at 605-224-7361 or tjockheck@pierre.org
Thanks, Tony, for posting and educating us and our readers about Cornholing - the legit version of the word. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Good post Tony, and I'm looking forward to it.
